Yesterday, Monday, I had to start paying $3 a day to park at Anderson station to ride the train. Every park and ride parking lot in the city will require payment of this fee by the end of May.
Supposingly, this fee will help pay for lots improvement and security. You’re not even capable of removing the snow in winter! Do you really think we believe you? This fee is a cash grab, a hidden municipal tax.
You increase the monthly passes by $6 (+8%) municipal taxes increased by 5.4% this year and will increase by more than 17% in the next 4 years. In addition a user of the parking lot will have to pay an additional $720 a year.
The city’s objective is to increase the usage of C-Train and the whole transit system. This fee does the exact opposite. It’s been 2 days now, and the parking lot looks like a Sunday afternoon in the middle of December.
If only I knew the cash grab will stay as is, you and I both know you’ll want to increase the fees. “Higher costs for security, and unexpected maintenance fee for the automated payment machines have to be addressed. Therefore we have to increase the parking fee to $5” I expect this statement or something close by Christmas this year.
As I said, Fuck you Calgary Transit!
